PINK sidetable(finally)

The sidetable has been complete for some time, however for several reasons it has taken me over a month to post. First, I could not decide on the handles and debated back and forth on what to do, and second, life got in the way.

I purchased the sidetable at a yard sale for $6. Here it is before,

And after,

It is painted Martha Stewart's magnolia grandiflora. It is a light, light pink. I then used minwax polycrylic protective finish. It took about four coats of paint and three coats of the minwax to complete the piece.

For the handles I ended up spray painting the original handles a high gloss white. I am not sure I will keep them, however I will wait until I see everything else in the room before I make the final decision. I also lined the drawers with wallpaper. I buy the wallpaper at a local shop for $1 in their discount bin (much cheaper than drawer liner).

I hope you like it!!

Fall Mantle

On Saturday we will officially have lived in our house for one year. Although we have done a ton of things around the house I feel that we still have about 100 10 years of work to do.

This is what our mantle looked liked when the previous owners lived there

And this is what our mantle looked like after a few fall updates

and a closer look

This fireplace is one of the reasons that we fell in love with the house. I feel that I should be changing the picture with the seasons, however I am still attached to our wedding photo!

Two Dresser`s

I have been intending to paint these two dresser`s for a long time and they have been sitting in my garage. My husband told me that before I could buy anything else from garage sales or the goodwill I to finish what I had. So needless to say, I got busy!

Here is the before of the first dresser (sorry, I had already started to sand it when I remembered to take the picture)

and here it is after

this is the second dresser before

I think they turned out great!!

Time Flies…

Well, my last post was the planning stages of CM’s room and all of the project’s that I can not wait to get started in order to complete the room. However as usual I was side tracked by many many other projects and summer vacation. This is the view that I had from the cottage that we rented the end of July

I have to say that painting, refinishing and decorating were the last thing on my mind. However since returning, I have been a busy girl, painting dressers (that I can not wait to show you) and very motivated to get things done around the house. However neither of the dresser’s are for CM’s room. I find it very hard to just concentrate on one room at a time.

Last weekend I did go to a dozen garage sales and found a side table for CM’s room for $7 and I can’t wait to show you what I have done with it. Here is the before picture

I should be able to show you the after picture’s by Monday.

I love stroking completed projects off lists and getting things done, so I thought I would make a honey do list of things to do for CM’s room (like Sherry’s laundry room list on YHL) and then I can stroke them off as they are complete. (WARNING: this may take a long long time)

So here is goes,

  1. Remove beautiful butterfly wallpaper
  2. Remove current base boards and castings
  3. Board and batten walls
  4. Paint walls and ceiling
  5. Add crown moulding
  6. Find side table and paint it
  7. Find dresser and paint it
  8. Paint bed
  9. Make or buy curtains and blinds
  10. Shop for lighting, area rug, baskets and bedding
  11. DIY some art for walls

That is all I can think of for now, however I am sure there will be more to add. I better get busy painting…

Bee’s & Butterflies

I’ve decided the first project that I am going to blog is our youngest daughter’s room.   I have chosen this project for several reasons, mainly because it is so fun to decorate a little girl’s room. However also because it is the next project on the honey do list, and it is the first time that she has had her very own room in her short 2 ½ years.

When we first purchased our home, this is what her room looked like

The blueish purple and pink butterfly wallpaper is not what I had in mind when I was picturing her room.

This is more of what I had in mind

Okay so her room is only 10x9 however I loved the painted purple beds, butter yellow walls and board and batten, or this

Once again the painted bed, the baskets for storage under the bed and who doesn’t love bunting!

This also makes me smile,

Here is a mood board that I have put together

  1. Board and Batten like this at It's the Little Things, or Centsational Girl, or here at Hooked on Houses
  2. This green gingham duvet cover from Pottery Barn
  3. Painted Pink dresser from Making it Lovely
  4. Bee and flower quilt from Pottery Barn
  5. Love this quote (I don't remember were I found it, however if anyone can help me out it would be very much appreciated)
  6. Pink Rug from Pottery Barn
  7. White baskets for storage
  8. Some sort of “Name Art”
  9. Wall Colour "Dandelion for Roo"
I can't wait to get started and share it all with you along the way :)
